Popularly known as Indian Ginseng, Ayurvedic texts revere Ashvagandha to be a rejuvenative tonic and for its immune-modulatory and inflammation-reducing properties, which help support the body to fight against infections.
Ashvagandha enhances immunity by strengthening the antibody function to recognize the invading microbes and assist in the removal of infected cells.
Ashvagandha improves the overall capacity of the body to fight infections and diseases through its ability to nourish body tissues and build strength and endurance.
Ashvagandha augments immunity by improving the level of white blood cell activation, especially Natural Killer (NK) cells, which play a major role in neutralizing virus-infected cells and helping restrain infections.
Maharasnadi Ghan is a polyherbal preparation recommended by Ayurvedic medical practitioners for treatment of arthritic conditions.
An investigation has been carried out rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients, to determine the anti-inflammatory and analgesic potential of Maharasnadi Ghan. Results obtained demonstrate that in RA patients, after 3 months of Maharasnadi Ghan treatment, there was a marked improvement in the pain and inflammation experienced by the patients as well as in the mobility of the affected joints.
From the overall results obtained, it may be concluded that Maharasnadi Ghan possesses significant anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities. Alteration in synthesis of prostaglandins and leukotrienes, membrane stabilization and anti-oxidant activity are some of the possible mechanisms through which Maharasnadi Ghan mediates its anti-arthritic effects
